Government grants to help cover the cost of switching to a heat pump.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government grant that helps cover the upfront cost of switching to an air source heat pump. It's a straightforward deduction taken off your final invoice, so there's nothing to pay back and no separate application for you to make.
Most homes qualify for £7,500 towards an air source heat pump. Properties that are off the gas grid and currently heated by oil or LPG can claim an additional £1,500 on top, taking the total to £9,000. This supplement is available until 31 March 2027. Grant amounts and eligibility criteria are set by the government and do change from time to time, so we'll always confirm exactly what you're entitled to before any work starts.
To qualify, the installation must be carried out by an MCS certified installer, which we are. The property must have an existing heating system in place, either fossil fuel (gas, oil or LPG) or electric, for the heat pump to replace. The property must be owned by the applicant, whether a homeowner or landlord. If you have built your own home and it has a heating system installed, you can still apply, provided the property has never been owned by a developer or organisation. Hybrid systems combining a heat pump with a gas boiler do not qualify. Once the grant is approved, the heat pump must be commissioned within 120 days.
Heat pump installations, including materials and labour, currently qualify for 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, a straightforward 20% saving on top of the grant.
We handle the grant application on your behalf as part of the installation process. For more on the heat pumps we install and how we approach a design, see our Air Source Heat Pumps page.
