Fresh, filtered air and better energy efficiency for airtight, modern homes.
Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, or MVHR, continuously extracts stale, moist air from kitchens and bathrooms and supplies fresh, filtered air to living rooms and bedrooms. Before the stale air leaves the building, a heat exchanger recovers most of the warmth from it, typically over 90% efficient, and uses it to gently warm the incoming fresh air.
Vent-Axia and Stiebel Eltron are the two brands we fit most often, though we're happy to work with other manufacturers too.
A well established British ventilation manufacturer, known for reliable, easy to maintain MVHR systems that perform consistently over the long term.
The same German engineering behind our heat pump range extends to their MVHR systems, built for quiet, efficient heat recovery in airtight homes.
MVHR is especially suited to airtight new builds and major renovations, where natural ventilation alone isn't enough to keep air fresh. Without it, moisture from cooking, showering and everyday living has nowhere to go, which is when condensation and mould start to appear. MVHR keeps a constant, gentle flow of filtered fresh air moving through the property while holding onto the heat that would otherwise be lost through an open window or extractor fan.
A good MVHR system depends on the ductwork design as much as the unit itself. Runs that are too long, too narrow or badly routed create noise and resistance, so we design the layout around the building first, working out room by room ventilation rates before deciding on the unit and duct sizes. Full heat loss calculations are available on request as part of that design process.
MVHR units rely on clean filters to work properly. They typically need checking every few months and replacing periodically, otherwise airflow drops and the system has to work harder for less benefit. We're happy to talk through what a system needs to keep performing well once it's installed, and whether MVHR is right for your project.
